C Stands For Courage

I sat, I wondered and somehow I knew
you never called like you usually do,
It was getting late when I eventually heard
the dreaded sound of that awful word,
that awful word I prayed I wouldn’t hear
the word that makes me tremble with fear.

Your friend confirmed that the outcome was bad
I felt so empty and terribly sad,
my heart was broken, I wanted to cry
and over again I asked myself why?
Is life a lottery? For that’s how it seems
It dampens our hopes and shatters our dreams,
or a fragile footprint on the edge of the shore?
to be washed away, to exist no more.
