The vegetable garden

In the vegetable garden

We share little gem tomatoes:

Miniatures of blushing jade

Entwined with slack, rubbery knots.

They fit exactly

Between the bottom teeth

And the dome of the palate.

Tiny round treasures

You can roll on the tongue

Like a kiss.

I enjoy the little explosion of juice

In my closed mouth.

But you half-open yours

To spray me with scent!
