1985 - year of disaster

Never was I aware in such a way
Of all the crimes happening every day
Of all the pain and sorrow
Destroying us today and tomorrow

Being afraid, hearts are beating faster
In the year of disaster

Earthquakes, eruptions, terror attempts
Homelessness, no time for defence
Fear, the only thing one receives
Death, tears for the casualties
Hunger, hopelessness, glassy eyes
Too little help for he who sighs

Being afraid, hearts are beating faster
In the year of disaster

South Africa: symbol of Apartheid
Where emotions are as dark as the night
But is it the only place where injustice rules?
No, because everywhere you can find unjust fools
It's not the only place where Apartheid reigns
Where they are hoping for brighter days
Where they shed blood and tears for love
And where they are looking for the white dove

Being afraid, hearts are beating faster
In the year of disaster

Geneva: Summit conference
G and R - pulling down their fence?
First steps to disarmament?
They cannot stop the lament
Not willing to renounce their weapons
Neither SDI nor ICBMs
There was no real progress
On this lost congress

Being afraid, hearts are beating faster
In the year of disaster

With regard to these terrible and senseless events
Do I put too much emphasis on my problems?
Frustrated and desperate of getting no job
Most letters of application were a flop
My heart is bleeding due to anger and stress
All my activities seem to be useless

Being afraid, hearts are beating faster
In the year of disaster
