Irene Beddies

The Magic Carpet

The Magic Carpet

I once wanted to buy a Persian rug
to ponder about its inwoven tales.
Instead I started to travel around
over the mountains and dales.

I listened to spring’s trot near the lake,
I went with autumn along the prairie,
I rambled through towns and woodland’s green
to learn of many a man’s history.

The most exiting of all tales were yours
upon whom I entirely set my affection.
Now my thoughts have a secret place
to dwell on in lifelong invention.

Like into a fairytale’s coloured rug
these patterns are woven tightly.
And in idle moments as sorceress
I sit down on it - smiling brightly.
