Mockery

 

Spring mocked me with hope.
The orchard bloomed so rich,
the waters in the ditch
threw back the bluest of blue skies
for days on end. Then ice
killed all this beauty overnight.
Showers washed right
away what was left of hope -
though birds still sing.
